ABOUT SAINT-PETERSBURG

Saint-Petersburg which has rich seafaring traditions is considered to be one of the most beautiful and economically developed cities in Europe. Saint-Petersburg leg of international regatta «THE TALL SHIPS’ RACES BALTIC – 2009» offers young people an opportunity to discover friendly and welcoming city.

Saint-Petersburg with 4,7 million people is the fourth most populated city in Europe. It’s located on 42 islands and crossed by picturesque rivers and canals. More than 300 artistically decorated bridges connect various territories separated by waterways into one city.

Convenient mooring in Neva mouth in historic center of the city gives a chance for participants of the regatta to see brilliant architecture of Saint-Petersburg with their own eyes. Participants of the regatta who will visit our city will meet not only unique potential of Saint-Petersburg, but new friends as well.

In 1996 Saint-Petersburg successfully received international tall ships races from 20 countries. During four days more than 1,5 million citizens and tourists visited the vessels. In summer of 2009 with eternal hospitality Saint-Petersburg is ready to meet people who will show their qualities, firmness, will-to-win spirit and abiding love of the sea. We’ve prepared wide cultural program with visiting of famous Russian points of interest for crews participating in the regatta.
