Villa Mare was built in 1991 and is a Mare 40 designed by Matti Ahtikari. Villa Mare was built to be the family's summer cottage hence the name "Villa Mare". Villa Mare mostly sails in the Baltic Sea, mainly close to the Finnish coast in the Turku archipelago. The yacht has sailed in the Mediterranean, Canary Islands and off the North African Coast. Villa Mare sails most of the year, even in winter, if the sea is not too frozen. The first time Villa Mare participated in the Tall Ships Races was in 1996.
